Chinese vendors to see smartphone shipments jump 21.3% in Q2

Chinese vendors will see their smartphone shipments jump by 21.3 percent to 97.4 million units in this year’s second quarter, boosted by the release of entry-level 4G LTE models, reports Telecompaper.com quoting Digitimes Research. In the first quarter, total smartphone shipments by China-based vendors fell 9 percent compared to the previous quarter.

The report also shows that Xiaomi Technology increased its quarterly shipments to over 10 million units, to lead the vendor ranking in the quarter. Coolpad and K-Touch saw their shipments rise 17.5 percent and 36.4 percent, respectively, in the first quarter, driven by the launch of TD-LTE models. The study also found that most other vendors posted sequential shipment declines ranging from 10-30 percent, as sales of 3G models have lost momentum, while sales to overseas markets also decreased slightly.

Overseas shipments of Chinese smartphones are expected to be steady at 28 million units in the second quarter. But brand vendors and large-size handset design houses are expected to continue to ramp up the ratios to total overseas shipments due to higher production scale and better supply-chain management.
