LeapFrog unveils wearable tech for kids

2014-05-05 16:43:42| Source:

Leapfrog, a manufacturer of education-related tablets and apps for children, has announced its LeapBand, a wearable activity tracker designed with kids in mind, CNN reports, and goes on to say that it will sell for $40 and is designed for kids aged 4-7, and "encourages active play and healthy habits", with 50 games and other challenges.

The company said it will be available in August, in a written report, which explained that the band fits around the wrist and looks a lot like a kiddie smartwatch and connects to a website or app that lets parents monitor the child\'s activities and choose which challenges they can select and which they can\'t.

Exactly what can be done with the information the LeapBand collects is a bit limited and abides by federal regulations on child data-collection, unlike some adult fitness trackers. The data is provided to the parents, and not to anyone else.

The band will be available online and at retailers across the US, in pink, green and blue.
