Bouygues Telecom chooses Ericsson for VoLTE upgrade
The French cellco Bouygues Telecom has selected the Swedish equipment vendor Ericsson to provide Voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) capabilities and full IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network integration, in a multi-vendor environment, reports Telegeography.com, citing a press release that says Ericsson will use its Multimedia Telephony Application Server, Session Border Gateway, Home Subscriber Server, and User Profile Gateway components, as well as software upgrades to its installed LTE radio access network and Ericsson Evolved Packet Core.
Following the upgrade, subscribers will get better HD voice call quality, shorter call set-up times and video calling.
Jean-Paul Arzel, head of Bouygues Telecom’s Networks division, commented, ”Bouygues Telecom is proving the ability of its 4G/LTE network to support the latest advanced technology and services. Commercial service rollout is scheduled for 2015 and our network will be carrying the first voice and video calls over LTE later this year.”
