Globe to invest USD 400 mln in LTE deployment
Philippines operator Globe Telecom plans to invest nearly $400 million in expanding its 4G LTE network coverage in the next two years. Globe has just announced that it has reached 100 percent 3G coverage for its entire network across the country.
In 2013, Globe expanded its LTE coverage by deploying infrastructure in key cities of Metro Manila as well as major areas outside the metropolis. These include cities of Manila, Pasig, Taguig, Muntinlupa and Quezon City, as well as Cebu City and Boracay in Aklan province, BusinessWorld reports, citing Globe Telecom CEO Ernest L. Cu. According to Cu, the number of Globe customers using mobile data services more than doubled over the past six months. This growth was mainly boosted by the increasing use of smartphones. Nearly 25 percent of Globe\'s 41 million mobile subscribers are currently using smartphones.
