Omnitel completes nationwide network upgrade
Omnitel, Lithuania’s largest mobile operator by subscribers has announced it has completed the upgrade of its wireless network under an extensive modernization project that began in 2011, Telegeography.com reports on July 2, 2014.
The project saw the TeliaSonera-owned company upgrade all existing 2G and 3G base stations and install an additional 686 new 3G cell sites, boosting data coverage to 99.9 percent of the country. The entire 3.5G network is now capable of delivering maximum download speeds of 42Mbps, while the 4G LTE footprint has also been increased and currently covers 50 percent of the population.
