NT looks to LTE for future data services

Nepal Telecom (NT) is planning on using Long Term Evolution (LTE) 4G mobile technology to handle all its fixed and wireless data services in the future, Telegeography.com reported on Sept 17, 2014. A report from local news source The Himalayan says the telco is searching for a consultant to assess the feasibility of transferring its existing GSM, CDMA, WiMAX and fixed line data services to an LTE platform. NT says it also plans to approach the Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) to secure the required frequencies for the move. The government has still to decide on plans to award 4G spectrum in the 700MHz, 2600MHz and 3300MHz bands. Both NT and its privately-owned mobile market rival Ncell say they would be in a position to launch 4G LTE technology within three months of securing frequencies.
