Megacom, Kyrgyzstan’s largest mobile provider by market share at 40.0% at end-June 2014, is continuing to install fiber-optic cables in the country, connecting northern and southern regions, Telegeography.com writes on Oct 13, 2014. The source cites that the operator has raised network capacity in villages in the municipalities of Batken, Osh and Talas. Megacom is wholly owned by the Kyrgyzstan government since July 2014 and operates on 2G and 3G networks. Consumers have been offered 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) coverage in and around the capital of Bishkek as of April this year by two other network operators, Nur Telecom and Saima Telecom, but Megacom has yet to expand its services to 4G.
