Telbo to bring fiber, LTE to Bonaire

2014-10-15 10:11:32| Source:

Telbo, the telecom operator on Bonaire, will deploy fiber to 8000 households and companies within the next 2-3 years, replacing the existing copper network, Telecompaper.com reports on Oct 13, 2014.

Contrary to what is common in the region, the network will be built underground and so operations will take longer because of the island rock surface. Rollout will start in February. Since the network replaces an older, no registration process will take place and the network will be profitable right from the start.

Telbo will provide services at first, but there will also be space for a second service provider, housing consultant Erik van den Oever said.

At the moment, Telbo Bonaire provides triple play services for about $100 per month. Similar packages over fiber should soon come out, with higher internet speeds for the same rate.

Consumers on Bonaire can currently choose from two providers for services over fixed lines, namely Telbo and Flamingo TV, which provides television and internet services.

Telbo intends to not only invest in FTTH but also in LTE services, which it plans to launch this year.
