Bharti, Vodafone may stay away from spectrum auction
India\'s mobile operator Bharti Airtel has joined Vodafone India in stating that there is no incentive to take part in the upcoming spectrum auction if a flat spectrum usage charge (SUC) is not adopted by the government, Telecompaper.com reported on Dec 23.
Jvoti Pawar, head of Bharti Airtel\'s regulatory affairs, explained that \'a flat SUC\' refers to the one recommended by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), an SUC of 3-percent for spectrum auctioned off and 5-percent for spectrum at administrative prices. The government\'s current charge is between 3 and 8 percent, depending on spectrum amount.
