Linkem offers customers dual-mode LTE/WiMAX device
Italian WiMAX operator Linkem has confirmed that it has started the transition towards Long Term Evolution (LTE) technology in collaboration with Paris-based Sequans Communications, TeleGeography reports. 4G chipmaker Sequans has supplied the Internet service provider (ISP) with dual-mode LTE/WiMAX equipment which allows subscribers to access the Internet using either WiMAX or LTE technology from the same device without any disruption in the service.
Linkem staged LTE trials over its 3.5GHz WiMAX spectrum in June 2013, with CEO Davide Rota admitting that ‘WiMAX technology is on the wane’, despite the company’s operational success to date.
