T-Mobile and Walmart team up on affordable 4G Tablets

T-Mobile is working with Walmart to provide a more affordable way to get a data-enabled tablet, Droid-life.com writes, quoting Doug Chartier, a senior V-P at T-Mobile, as saying that most customers end up choosing WiFi-only tablets because of the higher price tag for 4G or LTE-ready slates. Starting Monday, Walmart says, it will offer the 4G-powered Apollo Brands Quad Core tablet for $179, but this budget-mindful device will be overshadowed when Walmart starts selling the 4G-powered HP Slate 7 HD, for $229 next month. Both of these are intended to be more affordable to get more tablets out in people’s hands and each has an HD display, dual cameras, and low level processors.

But a tablet has just so much use without an Internet connection, so, by picking up either of these tablets at Walmart, people can take advantage of a T-Mobile offer of 200-MB a month of 4G speeds “for life”. Of course, if customers are looking to use more than the paltry 200-MB limit, T-Mobile and Walmart have something for them – $35 per month for 3.5-GB or $50 for 5-GB.
