Brazil reaches 278.5 million mobile lines at end-Sep

Brazil ended September with a total 278.48 million active mobile telephony lines, after a net addition of 1.07 million lines during the month, Telecompaper.com reports on Nov 14, 2014, according to data from the country\'s telecoms regulator Anatel. The country ended the month with an overall mobile telephony penetration of 137.14 percent. Prepaid lines accounted for 76.49 percent of total lines by end-September.

Vivo was market leader with 79.82 million mobile lines (28.66% of the total), followed by TIM with 74.87 million (26.89%), Claro with 68.63 million (25.01%), Oi with 51.42 million (18.47%), Nextel with 1.29 million (0.46%) and Algar/CTBC with 1.13 million (0.41%).

In terms of access technology, GSM leads with 129,35 million (46.62%), followed by WCDMA with 128,02 million (46.15%), M2M with 8.05 million (2.91%), broadband data with 6,62 million (2.39%), LTE with 4.16 million (1.50%) and CDMA with 12,440.
