Bitel aims to launch 4G in Peru in the future

Peruvian mobile operator Bitel, owned by Vietnamese military-run telco Viettel, expects to launch 4G services in Peru in the future, Telecompaper.com reports on Nov 18, 2014, citing Bitel general manager Hoang Quoc Quyen. The executive said that Bitel will try to secure spectrum in the 700 MHz band for the provision of LTE services. Bitel now offers mobile broadband through 3G technology. The 3G service is available in Lima, Callao, Huaura, Chincha, Ica, Pisco, Trujillo, Barranca, Camana, Ilo, Sullana, Tumbes and Zarumilla. The operator owns mobile spectrum in both the 900 MHz and 1,900 MHz bands. The executive said that Bitel has already invested about $400 million in its local operation.
