The operator 3 Austria announced the opening of its LTE network in the greater Vienna area, according to Telecompaper.com of Sept 24, which adds that the mobile operator aims to cover more than 50 percent of Austria’s people with 4G by the end of this year, and 98 percent by 2015. The operator said it is able to continue its 4G roll-out thanks to regulatory approval it got this summer to rework frequencies in the 1,800-MHz band acquired with the takeover of Orange. New and existing customers can upgrade to 4G speeds for an extra 4 euro per month on smartphones and 7 euro for other devices with a mobile internet plan. It is also offering one smartphone plan and two mobile broadband plans with unlimited 4G data.
