EE announces interactive LED floodlight system at Wembley

EE and Wembley National Stadium changed the London skyline with an illumination of the stadium’s arch, the night of Sept 23, as part of the operator’s 6-year partnership that was announced back in February, Telecompaper.com says, on its Sept 24 page. The lighting system using 228 large LED floodlights that can create a huge range of colors, which will be used early next year as a “digital heartbeat” that allows fans to control the light show with social media and react to goals scored and crowd noise. It will also be possible to see it through the official Wembley app, one part of a series of updates going live on Oct 9, when England will play a Euro qualifier against San Marino. Anyone using the app at the stadium, also gets a chance to win a seat upgrade and message the big screen direct from their smartphone. EE and Wembley are also running trials on contactless payments and ticketing in the stadium and are installing terminals for making card payments, mobile payments from EE’s Cash on Tap, and other major payment services. The two partners are looking to make more than half of all payments in the stadium contactless, by 2017.
